The Sensei is Big Air's ultra-high performance tri-cell, cross-braced parachute
designed by Brian Germain. The Sensei is specifically for high-speed, long distance
swoops. It combines the best of the best technologies in high performance parachute
design for wing rigidity and stability. Novel design features include:
FAT TAIL ™ airfoil design for HUGE power in the rear risers.
The Fat Tail allows the pilot to apply the rear risers without allowing the
airfoil to be bent aft of the "D" lines. This allows the swooper to drive the canopy
longer in the rear riser flight mode, increasing the distance across the ground.
Although counter-intuitive to what most skydivers understand about wing drag, the
Fat Tail does not increase the parasitic drag on the wing. Due to the turbulent
airflow aft of the centerline of the canopy, the thickness of the tail turns out
to be irrelevant. By increasing the thickness of the tail of the wing, we are able
to allow you to use the rear risers longer, and further than ever before!
Available sizes will be: 71, 81, 91, 101, and 111 square feet*
* The Measuring technique is similar to that used by Performance Designs.
The Sensei will be built in Big Air corporate colors: All white top and bottom
skins, with the center cell top and bottom skins being black (to represent a martial
arts "black belt"). The "guts" (the ribs and cross-braces) and Brian's trademark
triangles on the wing tips will be red. You can see something similar in the
prototype photos below. The "fixed" color pattern aids in the manufacturing of this
already complex airfoil AND will aid in recognition in the air.
Our thought is this: If you are purchasing a Sensei, colors should be the LAST
thing on your mind. You are purchasing the Sensei as a tool to maximize your swooping
power. You are not purchasing a Sensei so that you can have all-matching gear.
